A personal crisis can greatly impact your emotional wellbeing, your ability to move forward and the way you perceive God’s role in your life. Tragedy can test your faith, but your faith can grow through testing. In this webinar, Sandra Roman shared her faith journey during and after Hurricane Maria. She shared how this tribulation inspired her to write her book, Staying Strong: Diary of a Hurricane Maria Survivor in Puerto Rico. This webinar provided practical tools to find spiritual wholeness after tragedy.
Summary
1. A crisis is an intense danger, problem or difficulty. As Christians we are not exempt from suffering- John 17:13
2. When facing a tragedy it’s important to rely on God’s strength and not our own. Psalm 121:2
3. We need to learn to ask for help. Sometimes a person will need professional mental health support. And when offering help we must be specific. “Call me if you need anything” is not helpful. Galatians 6:2
4. Remember your victories. Thinking of times when God helped you overcome a previous crisis, will motivate you to regain hope. 1 Chronicles 16:11
5. Change your focus, as soon as you are able, look for others to help. Don’t remain focused on your pain. Acts 20:35
6. Find an outlet of expression. Expressing our feelings, thoughts and experiences through art can be a wonderful way of healing.
7. We must examine how our churches are offering support to women after divorce, cancer, the lost of a love one or domestic abuse. People in pain will carry their burdens to church and express them everywhere. How wonderful would it be if we had appropriate spaces for women to find wholeness at God’s house!
