The National Leadership Team for AB GIRLS (NLT) consists of four teenage girls and two women from across the
country working together to plan programs and resources for ministry with girls. They also serve as consultants for churches who are looking to start up their own ministries with girls, and NLT members are available for speaking engagements and consultation in American Baptist regions.
Youth members of the NLT serve a two-year term; adults a three-year term. The NLT meets during the year in person and by video conference call to resource ministry with girls, to plan national events for girls, and to receive training so that they might be prepared for consultation and speaking engagements. In addition, members of the NLT are developed as leaders and broaden their vision by serving with girls and women from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Girls in grades 8 through 10 who are active members of an American Baptist church are eligible to apply to the NLT (to serve while in grades 9-12). The NLT looks for girls who have a commitment to their faith, a desire to be challenged and stretched, leadership capabilities, and a love of ministry. More information and a downloadable application form, including a parent’s newsletter, is available below.
Women are nominated to the NLT through the executive committee of AB Women’s Ministries by submitting a biographical data form (below). Experience with AB GIRLS, ministry with girls, or ministry with children or youth in a congregational or regional setting is a plus, although not an absolute requirement.
