SOCIAL IMPACT

United in PURPOSE
Building bridges of understanding and empathy, and fostering a spirit of acceptance and empowerment.

Social Justice at the Core

At the heart of our organization’s mission are the principles of social justice, which drive our work across multiple issues.  We are more than an organization — we are a movement committed to creating systemic change that empowers women, amplifies their voices, and ensures equal opportunities for all. Our work is rooted in social justice, tackling a broad spectrum of issues that affect women and marginalized communities. From domestic violence and racial injustice to economic empowerment and combating sex trafficking, we are committed to driving lasting social change.

The social impact of our work is profound and far-reaching. Through every initiative, we aim to foster an inclusive society where every woman, regardless of her background, can live with dignity, security, and opportunity. Social impact isn’t just about our immediate programs — it’s about reshaping the systems that influence the lives of women and creating a future where justice, equity, and empowerment are accessible to all.

Our programs are deeply focused on addressing systemic inequalities, and we focus on the following critical areas:

1. Domestic Violence and Gender-Based Violence

Domestic violence is a pervasive issue, affecting millions of women worldwide. At ABWM, we are dedicated to supporting survivors and breaking the cycle of abuse. Our work includes:

  • Providing support and resources for survivors of domestic violence, including legal assistance, counseling, and safe housing options.
  • Raising awareness about the prevalence and impact of domestic violence through public education campaigns in which we have already hosted workshops virtually and in various places such as Puerto Rico this year.
  • Advocating for stronger laws and policies to protect survivors and hold abusers accountable.

Domestic violence is a pervasive issue, affecting millions of women worldwide. At ABWM, we are dedicated to supporting survivors and breaking the cycle of abuse. Our work includes:

2. Racial Justice and Equity

Racial injustice remains a significant barrier to equality for many women, particularly women of color. Our organization stands at the forefront of advocating for racial justice through initiatives that include:

  • Providing support for Black, Indigenous, and women of color who face unique challenges, including access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
  • Fighting for policy reforms that address the racial wealth gap, disproportionate incarceration rates, and discriminatory practices in education and healthcare.
  • Amplifying the voices of marginalized communities through grassroots organizing, activism, and leadership development.

We believe racial justice is essential to achieving gender equity and are committed to challenging the structures that perpetuate systemic racism.

3. Economic Empowerment

Economic independence is a key pillar of women’s empowerment. Our organization works to break down the barriers that prevent women from accessing fair wages, career advancement, and financial autonomy. Our economic empowerment initiatives include:

  • Job training programs to equip women with the skills they need to enter high-demand fields and achieve financial independence.
  • Entrepreneurship support, including mentorship, networking, and access to funding for women looking to start their own businesses.
  • Advocacy for fair wages and better working conditions, particularly for women in underpaid sectors such as domestic work, retail, and caregiving.
  • Grants and Financial Assistance – ABWM provides grants to organizations and microloans to individuals, allowing women to support their families and their communities.
  •

We are dedicated to ensuring that women have equal access to opportunities that allow them to thrive economically, both individually and collectively.

4. Immigration Rights and Advocacy

Immigrant families face a unique set of challenges, from discrimination to fear of deportation. We advocate for the rights of immigrant women and work to create a safe and supportive environment for them, regardless of their immigration status. Our work includes:

  • Awareness of the issue in the ways it affects families and children as well as sharing what we can do in support.
  • Providing legal aid and resources to immigrant women navigating the complexities of immigration law.
  • Fighting for policies that protect immigrant rights, including access to healthcare, education, and employment.

We believe in a world where immigrant women are treated with dignity, respect, and the same opportunities as any other woman.

5. Cross-Cultural Relationships and Diversity

Our organization recognizes the importance of fostering cross-cultural understanding and relationships. In a world that is increasingly interconnected, it is essential to promote mutual respect and cooperation among diverse communities. Our efforts include:

  • Facilitating intercultural and interfaith dialogue to break down stereotypes, address misunderstandings, and build stronger, more unified communities.
  • Promoting inclusivity and diversity in all aspects of life, from the workplace to public policy.
  • Celebrating cultural differences and advocating for policies that embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Social Impact Group

We understand that diversity enriches society, and we are committed to creating spaces where women from all cultures can come together, learn from each other, and support one another.

6. Combating Sex Trafficking and Exploitation

Sex trafficking is one of the most devastating human rights violations, and women are disproportionately affected by this crime. Our organization is dedicated to ending sex trafficking and supporting those who have survived this horrific experience. Our initiatives include:

  • Raising awareness about the realities of sex trafficking and the signs of exploitation.
  • Providing resources and rehabilitation for survivors, including trauma-informed care, legal assistance, and education opportunities.
    • Human Trafficking National Hotline: 1-888-373-7888 (TTY: 711)
    • Text: 233733

We are committed to working with advocacy groups and survivors to eradicate sex trafficking and ensure that women can live free from exploitation.

7. Ending the Cycle of Poverty

Poverty disproportionately affects women and is often linked to gender-based violence, lack of education, and limited access to healthcare. We focus on addressing the root causes of poverty and empowering women to lift themselves and their families out of financial hardship through:

  • Economic literacy and job readiness programs that provide women with the skills they need to achieve financial independence.
  • Access to affordable housing and social services to help women in crisis situations.
  • Building community wealth through cooperatives and community-based businesses that empower women financially.

By addressing poverty, we are working to eliminate the barriers that keep women from realizing their full potential.

The Broader Impact on Society

When we fight for the rights and opportunities of women, we are fighting for the betterment of all society. To empower a woman is to empower a family. To empower a family is to empower a community. To empower a community is to empower a nation. Empowering women creates a ripple effect that improves families, communities, and economies. As women become more empowered, the positive outcomes extend beyond their immediate circle and transform entire neighborhoods, regions, and nations.

Our work doesn’t just impact individual women; it shapes the social, cultural, and political landscape of our world. We are building a future where justice, equality, and opportunity are not privileges but rights — for all.
